Google is expanding the reach of the locked folder feature in the Google Photos app, making this tool soon available for iOS and the web as well. This means that even if you decide to switch from an Android device to an iPhone, you’ll be able to access your secure files seamlessly.
The locked folder feature of Google Photos is coming for iOS
It seems like between the new two versions and the old Android version will be the same. All three user types can store their content in a locked folder and then back it up to be accessible from multiple devices. According to Google’s official announcement, you’ll be entrusting your files to ‘one of the most advanced security infrastructures in the world.
The issue, as mentioned earlier, was that the locked folder feature wasn’t available outside of Android smartphones. This meant that an iPhone owner wanting to hide sensitive media would have to resort to other methods. These images could inadvertently end up in other connected applications where they could be viewed in full. However, with this update, iPhone users are also relieved from this concern.
In addition to the update, the company is also simplifying the settings page in Google Photos to make finding and adjusting privacy controls easier. Everything won’t be cluttered in a single screen within the menu anymore. Instead, separate tabs will divide the content into larger sections for a cleaner look.
The update patch could arrive on your iPhone at any moment. Google indicates that the new layout of the settings page is now available in Google Photos for both Android and iOS. Additionally, Locked Folder support is starting to roll out to iOS users today. The timing for when this feature will come to the web version is still unknown, but it’s reasonable to assume it will be in the near future.
